Skulpturriles
Maike Gräf’s bizarre sculptures combine unusual ways of handling material with provocative and association-rich forms that thematize the human being and body.

Gräf uses an assortment of savage instrument - chainsaws, hammers, and chisels - to shape whole tree trunks into segmented, rhythmic sculptures of concave surfaces whose colors, textures, materials, and objects project a novel aesthetics of contrast.

Her dynamic figures and scenarios reference pop and media culture, art, and history and call on viewers - sometimes by dramatic means - to dare to explore their own ideas.
