Walter Schmalen discovered his passion for wood while visiting the workshop of the sculptor Peter Nettesheim.
After experimenting with figurative works, Schmalen began designing and manufacturing lighting and small pieces of furniture.
The find - usually made of robinia wood - provides the form and size of the object. The results are one-of-a-kind pieces that retain their past traces. The living structure of the wood and the cool surface of the metal compose the particular appeal of the objects.
